Our last day in Munich we decided to sleep in since we had pretty much done most of what we wanted to do in Munich and it was suppose rain all day. It actually did end up raining on us which was awesome but it was cold and overcast all day. We slept all morning and then left the hotel and headed to the Marienplatz. We ended up eating lunch at this really cute organic place that we ended up loving. It was really refreshing to have something healthy instead of the delicious, but heavy, german food which mainly consists of meat and beer. After lunch we headed to a shopping street right off the Marienplatz. We ended up going to H&M where they had whole sections of orange and blue clothes! Ended up getting some gameday clothes for really cheap which was really fun. Afterwards we went back to the hotel and moved our luggage to our new hotel that was right by the train station since our train left really early. We ended up resting in the hotel and then went to dinner for our last German meal which was delicious. We came back, got ready for a big day the next day and headed to bed.
On Friday, we had a train that left at 6:50 so we had to get up really early and go from Munich to Frankfurt and then Frankfurt to Brussels. Once we got to Brussels our train was late coming in so we took a taxi to where we are staying. We honestly had no idea where we were going so we were kind of confused when our taxi driver dropped us off in the middle of some neighborhood. We found the house we are staying outside the city in a house where international students live. Once we got there we met the rest of our study abroad group where we got phones, metro passes, and got a few things we needed to know. After that we went exploring in the neighborhood we are living in. We went to the grocery store to get some groceries and walked around. Then, we headed on the tram to figure out where the CUBC (Clemson University Brussels Center) was where we will have all our classes. It was nice to figure out where we were and where we are going and we ended up eating dinner near the CUBC. Dinner ended up being perfect because they were able to fit us all in and it was really good. We all had our first Belgian beers of the study abroad trip. Beth and I both had a greek burger which reminded us of Greece which was fun. After dinner Sarah, Beth, and I walked around while everyone else headed back to the house to get over their jet lag. After we walked around a while, the three of us headed back to house to head to bed.
Yesterday (Saturday) we got up and headed to the CUBC for a walking tour. We met our guide, Sasha who was awesome and met up with the other Clemson study abroad group here with us which is a communications program. We spent the morning on a walking tour of Brussels which was great. It was our first taste of the city since we are staying outside the main center but we all really loved the main city. Brussels is really fun and has so many beautiful buildings. After the tour all of our program (there are 13 of us) went to lunch at a place called Exki which was really good. A bunch of the group ended up taking theirs to go and went to a park but Sarah, Beth, and I ended up staying at the restaurant and eating there. I had soup and fruit which was really good. After lunch the three of us walked around town. We stopped in several chocolate shops and Beth and I got some at Neuhaus which was really good. In Brussels there are chocolate shops EVERYWHERE. It is awesome. We are all loving the chocolate. It is delicious. Beth and I are determined to try a different chocolate place almost every day so we can find the best Belgian chocolate. We also went to the tourist office and scoped out a bunch of places we want to come back for meals, things to do, and different museums. We came back to the house afterwards and the rest of the group came back a little while later. We ended up hanging out in the house which was fun and everyone was trying to figure out how to get to the airport because RyanAir doesn't fly out of the main airport it flies out a hour south of Brussels. So...with most of the group flying to Italy this weekend and Beth and I going to Dublin, we had to figure out how we were all getting to the airport early in the morning. For dinner, Beth and I wanted to get out of the house so we went to an amazing restaurant called Restaurant Saint Catherine which was so good. The man that owns the place cooked for us and it felt like we were in his home since it was a small restaurant. After dinner, we went to Delirium which is a really famous pub in Belgium where we were going to meet up with the rest of our program but Delirium was packed and huge and they ended up getting there late so we never saw them. But Beth and I still had fun at Delirium and ended up heading back to the house afterwards.
