Sunday morning we woke up and went to the National Archaeological Museum where we saw tons of really old artifacts from Athens which was really cool. My favorite part was they had a whole section on coins that were made that have Greek mythology gods and goddesses on them. The museum was huge but we were tired so we left and got frappes. After that we went to Ancient Agora which was the main part of the old Athens where there were even more ruins. When we were finishing up at Agora we saw some dark clouds coming so we headed to lunch to let the storm pass. We ate lunch and ended up sitting at the restaurant for several hours due to the downpour. While we were sitting there we saw a guy come in by himself with a Memphis hat so we invited him to come eat with us while it rained. It turns out the guy is a world traveler and is here with his wife tagging along on a program for a bunch of kids that just finished high school. He went to Harding and now lives in Memphis. He and his wife live a simple life in Memphis so they can travel the world. I think I should follow his lead and do the same one day! After the rain slowed down we went back to the hostel to dry off and ended up sitting in the hostel with two guys from our room that just graduated from UNC Chapel Hill. After some great conversation with them, we left the hostel and rode the metro to the port. I enjoyed Athens but was glad to be leaving for Santorini. I think if I come again I will head straight for the islands! When we got to the port we had to take a bus around to our boat but we got confused and the greek ladies on the bus didn't really know how to help us. We ended up getting a taxi driver to help us and he became our new best friend when he took us where we needed to be. When we picked up our tickets at the desk Beth asked where we go and the man told her "To the big boat". I'm sure they think Americans are idiots.
Our ferry from Athens to Santorini was awesome. It wasn't your typical ferry it was pretty much a cruise ship. We arrived late and were picked up at the port by someone from the hotel and they took us up to Fira where we are staying.
Monday
After sleeping in this morning we went to the reception desk where a precious pregnant lady that works at San Gorgios and she gave us a map and told us all the best things to do on the island and where to eat and everything.
Santorini is seriously the most beautiful place I have ever seen. The weather was incredible at high 70s today with a nice breeze. God's beauty is so evident here and I absolutely love it. If you have never added Santorini, Greece onto your bucket list of traveling do it now. Seriously this place this needs to be a top priority because it is incredible, I am in love with it and I plan to spend every minute as soon as I leave figuring out the next time I can come back.
We shopped around Fira and admired the views
The island is where the volcano is and behind that there is a hot springs
We ate lunch at a place called Naoussa which was delicious. I am absolutely loving the greek food.
My greek yogurt with walnuts and honey dessert at lunch.
They started bringing us drinks on the house during our lunch. Wine and lemon cello mmmm.
Solo shot. Love it.
One of the big churches in Fira. The inside was absolutely beautiful with incredible paintings all over the walls and ceiling.
I love the blue doors.
After spending the day in Fira, we took the bus up to Oia (ee-ah). We went to one of the markets and got cheese, chips, cherries, and wine and headed up to the top to sit and have a picnic as we watched the sunset. It was incredible beautiful. The sun was bright orange/red. After the sunset we walked around Oia a little bit and got ice cream. We took the bus back to Fira and decided to head back to the room. The day ended as we were walking back from the main square in Fira back to our hotel and a guy was driving crazy on the road. When he was about to pass us he slammed on his breaks rolled down the window and said "Hey Gurls" in an awesome Greek accent. No mom, we were not temped to get in the car but it is nice to know we can get some Greek men when I decide to live here permanently.
Oia, the other main town in Santorini, during the sunset.
